Message from Editorial Team

Paediatrics does not deal with miniature men and women, with reduced doses and the same class of disease in smaller bodies but has its own independent range and horizon.” — Dr. Abraham Jacobi (1830–1919), regarded as the Father of American Pediatrics, President of the American Medical Association in 1912, and a founder of the American Pediatric Society, an early organization in the evolution of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

This quote remains a guiding principle for those involved in pediatric pharmacology. Children are not simply small adults; they require tailored approaches to medication that reflect their unique physiology, developmental stages, and treatment needs.

This online database presents information on over 350 medicines commonly used in the treatment of children in Sri Lanka. It is a small but meaningful effort to support healthcare professionals in treating children as a distinct patient population.

The database includes details on dosing schedules, pediatric-specific formulations (where applicable), key administration advice, clinical practice points, and products currently registered in Sri Lanka.

We gratefully acknowledge the invaluable information drawn from trusted sources, including the British National Formulary for Children, Australian Medicines Handbook – Children’s Dosing Companion, Drugs.com, the World Health Organization, the National Medicines Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Antimalarial Campaign, the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control & Chest Diseases, and other reference materials.

We hope this resource proves useful to the many doctors caring for children across the country, ultimately benefiting the health and well-being of Sri Lankan children. This is the result of a collaborative effort, and while we have taken great care to ensure accuracy and reliability, we welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement.
